You wouldn’t know it by gazing at these sprawling 23 acres, but the Capri Centre began in 1957 as a 48-bedroom motel on the outskirts of Red Deer. The addition of an elegant dining room and other services in 1962 marked the beginning of a transformation responsible for the Capri Centre as it stands today. Our history has been one of growth, leadership and innovation driven by a commitment to exceptional guest service and satisfaction.

In the early 70's the Capri Centre became an industry leader and has remained so through its aggressive growth strategy. The Conference Centre, added in 1979 and the hotel tower in 1981 brought new possibilities for the corporate client and to the City of Red Deer.

The 1990's carried the Capri Centre into its most ambitious decade of expansion and modernization. The Capri Liquor & Cold Beer store was added in 1991 followed almost immediately by the dream to create an all-inclusive facility capable of surpassing anything within 160 kilometres. The Capri Centre Exhibition Hall was added in 1997 bringing 34,000 square feet of column free trade show, concert and conference space to Red Deer and Central Alberta.

The new Millennium ushered in with it a transformation of the Capri’s interior. The remodeling of the Garden Terrace Lounge and Barbero’s Restaurant (formerly the Lemon Tree) in April 2000 brought a cosmopolitan feel to the facility. Recognizing the continued growth within the City of Red Deer and in an ever-present effort to maintain its role as leader in the Hospitality industry, 64 new Executive suites were completed in June 2000 completing the Capri Centre Hotel, Trade & Convention Centre as it stands today. A new décor for the shopping concourse and main lobby in 2001 gave the hotel a new look and feel for the future, bringing us to April 2004 and the outstanding accomplishment of our 40th Anniversary.

The Capri Centre is a long-standing supporter of numerous local community projects and organizations. Always an advocate of youth, non-profit organizations and worthy causes, this behind-the-scenes support has made us one of Red Deer’s most generous local institutions. Our employees, more than 260 strong, keep the Capri Centre a vibrant part of Red Deer’s continuing growth and vitality.

At this time, the Capri Centre is the largest first class all-inclusive Conference Centre in Central Alberta. The Spring of 2007 brought newly renovated second floor suites and Jacuzzi suites, contributing to the Capri Centre’s upscale decor. Catering to business and leisure travelers, we have maintained industry-leading standards of excellence by offering an award-winning combination of services, value and comfort. The Capri Hotel, Trade & Conference Centre stands on a strong platform of product, service, dedicated employees and community support. We continue to exceed the expectations of our guests and provide support to the growth and success of Red Deer and all of Central Alberta.
